Libraries

University School has three outstanding libraries that are specifically tailored to students at our two campuses.

The Wean Research Library

The Wean Research Library serves grades 9-12 at the Hunting Valley campus. We provide services and materials to support learning and teaching within the school community while promoting an appreciation of literature and assisting in the development of information literacy skills. Our collection of over 22,000 books, 10,000 ebooks, 25 magazines and journals, and over 30 electronic databases covers various curricular topics and can be accessed from home as well as school. We also provide online practice tests for the AP tests, SAT subject tests, SAT, PSAT, and ACT.

The Sherman Library

The Sherman Library is a 2,500 square foot space consisting of a main room containing the book collection, small tables, comfortable reading area, wall of periodicals, and a student workstation with free copying and supplies. The library serves students in grades 5-8. The Sherman Library collection includes more than 8,000 books and subscribes to 16 magazines and 2 daily newspapers. The library provides access to multiple state-funded databases and three additional electronic resources available from campus as well as home.

The McKinley Library

The McKinley Library at the Shaker campus (grades Jr.K-4), boasts a collection of 12,000 volumes. The librarian provides curricular support for the lower school faculty as well as teaching classes in literature appreciation, library and research skills, and information literacy. Lessons are generally integrated with classroom instruction and themes, or reflect special events during the year. The library resources may be accessed at any time, in person or online, and students are encouraged to use the library for individual study and research.
