Anderson Scholars Program - High School MBA
Anderson Scholars must complete a wide range of curricular and extra-curricular requirements. Students earn recognition as Anderson Scholars with an Entrepreneurship Concentration after completing this rigorous, three-year program. For students who have a passion for business, the Anderson Scholars Program provides a unique opportunity to learn about and experience entrepreneurship.

Business Courses: Two focused business courses, Microeconomics and History of Capitalism, help students prepare for a career in management or in starting their own enterprises.

Microeconomics
This course provides students with an understanding of the principles of economics and business that drive, and are driven by, the decisions of individual consumers and producers. Basic economic concepts covered include scarcity, supply and demand, markets, opportunity cost, comparative advantage, and more. Students study how economics impact business strategy, finance, accounting, and marketing decisions. Emphasis is placed on knowledge of terminology, analysis, problem solving, and application. Students also learn about strategic positioning, pricing, market share, gross profit, cash flow, financing, and more. They then apply this knowledge to a combination of Harvard Business School case studies, Excel-based financial analyses, online business simulations (called Titan), and the development of a business idea.  These and other projects also introduce the students to business communications and entrepreneurship. This course is required for all Entrepreneur Anderson Scholar candidates.
Prerequisites: Students must have completed Algebra 1 and be familiar with the TI-84 calculator.

History of Capitalism
This one-semester elective course utilizes a series of readings to analyze the history and development of the American free enterprise system with a focus on management. We begin with a brief look at the emergence of a capitalistic economy in Manchester, England, in the early 19th century. Students study the growth of the modern American corporation beginning with the railroads in the late 19th century. We then take a detailed look at the automotive industry in the first half of the 20th century through a comparison of the management of General Motors, Ford and Toyota. We examine management trends in the second half of the 20th century with a study of McDonalds’ franchise system, Ken Blanchard's One Minute Manager, and Jim Collins' Good to Great. We conclude the semester in the 21st century with a look at managing the “digital native employee.”  This course is required for all Entrepreneur Anderson Scholar candidates. This course is open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
