National Achievement and Commended Scholars

University School seniors Chi Okare and Kyle Scadlock have been named Semifinalists in the 2015 National Achievement Scholarship Competition, which recognizes academically promising Black American high school students.

The students are among the more than 1,600 high school seniors nationwide who were named Semifinalists. Both young men entered University School in sixth grade.

"We are very pleased that two of our students have been recognized by the National Achievement Scholarship Competition," said Jenny Rifken Fisher, Director of College Counseling. "Chi and Kyle have distinguished themselves in the classroom and beyond. They are bright, talented, and should be praised for such a noteworthy achievement."

Eight University School seniors were also named Commended Students in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship competition, bringing the total number of US students named Semifinalists or Commended Students to 19.

The Commended Students are: Trevor Adams, Sami Ascha, Nathan Krebs, Eric Ma, Sam Moazami, Ryan Onders, Phillip Vorster, and Tyler Wasser.

As reported last week, the National Merit Scholarship Program named nine University School seniors as Semifinalists in the 2015 competition: Akshay Bhardwaj, Nathan Fakult, Stephen Gillinov, Samuel Heater, Jeffrey Holland, Joseph 'Hal' Juster, Chandler Koon, Solomon La Piana, and William Xin.
