Four seventh grade students at University School's Shaker Campus will participate in the National Academic Quiz Tournaments (NAQT) Middle School National Championship this weekend in Dallas, Texas.

Students Garrett Blum, Nehal Chigurupati, Henry Massey, and Edon Tamir qualified for the national tournament by finishing in second place at the Solon Middle School Invitational in February.

During the school year, the US students have participated in NAQT's middle school quiz bowl, a competitive, academic, interscholastic activity for which players attend periodic practices and represent their school at tournaments.

Quiz bowl questions cover the full spectrum of the middle school curriculum and also include current events, sports, and popular culture. The matches feature a blend of individual competition and team collaboration, since no individual player is likely to be an expert in all subject areas.

"We are very proud to be represented at the national level by four boys who are wonderful students but even better citizens," said Bruce Wilhelm, Head of the US Shaker Campus. "They have worked hard to get to this point and we wish them the very best of luck this weekend."
