US Soccer Player Signs Letter of Intent

University School soccer goalkeeper Charlie Horton today signed a National Letter of Intent to play soccer at The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. UNC competes in NCAA athletics at the Division I level.

Charlie, 18, has achieved many honors in his soccer career. In the summer of 2010, he was a two-week trialist for the Manchester United Football Club and a weekend trialist for the Chelsea Football Club located in England. He was among the Midwest Regional League Champions in 2009. Charlie was named an Ohio North State Champion in 2007, 2008, and 2009, a Midwest Region II Runner-up in 2008, and a two-time Northern Ohio All-Star. In 2008, 2009 and 2010, he played on the Olympic Development Program's state team. At University School he was a varsity letter winner and a member of Varsity Coach John Ptacek's soccer team. He has been a member of the United States Soccer Development Academy - Internationals Team for three consecutive years and serves as its captain. Charlie has received private goalkeeper training from Dan Gaspar, Amir Kettani, and Denny Ciornei.

Charlie has attended University School since third grade.
