The US Merit Scholar Program encourages the best and brightest boys in the area to join our community. Students with the highest marks and top scores will be considered. Awards range from $2,500 to $15,000. The US Merit Scholar Program is an exciting opportunity for current and prospective students entering 9th grade in the fall of 2020. The University School Merit Scholar Program recognizes those boys who have distinguished themselves as outstanding scholars and citizens.
THE SELECTION PROCESS
Students will be chosen to apply based on standardized test scores (the
Independent School Entrance Exam or the
Secondary School Admission Test for applicants who are not in the US 8th grade class) and past academic achievements. Students will be invited to the Hunting Valley campus on Sunday, February 10 for an afternoon of showcasing programs in the sciences, the humanities, and the arts. During their time on campus, the boys will be interviewed by a selection committee and sit for a writing exercise.
A boy who attends this event is automatically identified as a semifinalist for the US Merit Scholar Program, and he will receive a $500 voucher for his tuition at University School.
MAINTAINING AWARDS
Based on the determination of our selection committee, University School will be awarding four-year grants starting at $2,500 per year. Students must maintain a high academic average, display excellent citizenship, and maintain a strong investment in the life of the school in order to continue to receive the award during their four years of high school.
OUR CULTURE OF EXCELLENCE
Our
application process at University School considers the personal and academic strengths of candidates, such that all of our students naturally meet an elevated standard of excellence. The US Merit Scholar Program recognizes students who continue to stand out for academic performance, even among a student body made up of high achievers.
