Congratulations to our upper school teachers who received awards at today's Honors Day Assembly.
Dr. Sara Laux, director of science research, received the Seelbach Faculty Fellowship, given to a teacher who is generous of spirit, encouraging of all learners, and immersed in school life. Dr. Laux has taught at US since 2009. Her citation reads:
For the inexhaustible energy and enthusiasm she brings to her discipline,
For the unwavering belief she has in her students,
For the dedication with which she approaches her craft as a teacher,
For her determination to develop a program prominent beyond the confines of our campus,
One which inspires, honors, and promotes student work,

Dr. Sara Laux
Mrs. Susan McClellon, mathematics teacher and math competitions advisor, received the Ingersoll Award, given to a teacher who demonstrates a level of excellence in the early years of his or her career at US. Mrs. McClellon has taught at US since 2015. Her citation reads:
Enthusiastic, extremely organized, engaging, demanding, and caring.
This honoree commits herself to her students, to her discipline,
and to her craft as a teacher with boundless energy.
Capable of approaching any challenge with consideration,
resourcefulness, and limitless creativity, she has renowned herself as a
consequential contributor
to her students’ development, to the evolution of her department,
and, indeed, to how we as a school community understand our world.
Shakuntala Devi said, “Everything around you is mathematics.
Everything around you is numbers.”
