Lower & Middle School Faculty Awards

Head of School Patrick Gallagher presented the school's highest faculty awards to our lower and middle school teachers at the Shaker campus assembly today.

Cortney Dargaj, second grade teacher, received the Alumni Faculty Fellowship, which honors outstanding teachers who have contributed significantly to the quality of the Shaker campus. Ms. Dargaj has taught at US since 2010. 

Her award citation reads:
For her positivity and optimism,
For her tenacity to work through adversity,
For her commitment to cultivating relationships with students,
For her thoughtful understanding of what makes each boy learn best,
For her commitment to service and helping others in need,
For her inspiration to all who are graced by her company,

Eliza Byrnes, fifth grade teacher, received the Seelbach Faculty Fellowship, given to a teacher who is generous of spirit, encouraging of all learners, and immersed in school life. Ms. Byrnes has taught at US since 2016.

Her award citation reads:
For her meaningful delivery of content and care, whether on site or online;
For her dedication to teaching and helping boys learn mathematics;
For her willingness to help each boy master content and build skills;
For her professional disposition; her steadfast approach; a
nd her openness to change, grow, and evolve as an educator;
For the joy she brings each day to her fifth-grade students;
The William F. Seelbach Faculty Fellowship is presented

ELIZA BYRNES

Ashley Stuart, middle school math teacher, received the Ingersoll Award, given to a teacher who demonstrates a level of excellence in the early years of his or her career at US. Ms. Stuart has taught at US since 2018. 

Her award citation reads:
An advocate, a caretaker, and a cheerleader – this honoree’s students
achieve at a high level thanks to her tireless support.
A contributor, a volunteer, and a team player – she is the first to offer a
“yes” in her department, the division, and the school.
Communicative, inquisitive, reflective, and collaborative – she models the
habits of mind we all wish to see in University School students.
Calm, open, flexible, and nurturing – she exemplifies University School’s
mission to “know and love” each and every student in her care.
For demonstrating a level of excellence in her early years
that portends an exceedingly bright future,
