117th Annual Sherman Prize Speaking Contest

The 117th annual Sherman Prize Speaking Contest took place virtually at the upper school. Jeremy Battle '22 won first place for his speech, "What is Normal?", about rethinking the impact of what normal means. Max Outcalt '22 received second place for his speech "The Monster in the Closet," about overcoming a fear of your own identity. Chris Bridge '22 won third place for "Putting the Civil Back in Civil Discourse," a national call to reintroduce civility in political discussion. Aiden Burkholder '22, Ananth Menon '22, and Javan Cobb '22 received honorable mention awards. Congratulations to all of the finalists!

The speeches were judged based on originality, clarity, organization, and quality of delivery. Thank you to this year's judges and Program Director Mr. Jim Garrett!
