US Teaching & Learning Institute

With the spirit of community, collaboration, and lifelong learning, the 2022-2023 academic year began with the return of the US Teaching and Learning Institute. This day-long event at the Hunting Valley Campus gave US staff and faculty members Jr. K - 12 the chance to share and connect on topics that present opportunities and challenges to educators.

Organized like a professional conference, over 40 faculty members presented during 50 class-length sessions to their peers. Teachers shared their knowledge and work on a wide variety of subjects including curriculum and newly-revised curriculum, theme-based learning, instructional technology, assessment, motivation, social-emotional learning topics, and much more. Faculty also shared what they had learned from recent professional development opportunities.

Jen Beros, Associate Head of School and a driving force of the Teaching and Learning Institute said, "The Teaching and Learning Institute was such a wonderful way to begin the year. Teachers have commented over and over about how it gave them the opportunity to learn from each other in so many different areas and provided time to really appreciate the depth of teaching talent we have among our colleagues here at US. Our faculty seemed to really value the way it grounded the start of our year in our own pedagogy and thinking about best practices in education. Most of all, it was a way for all of us to reconnect meaningfully and launch the school year while thinking deeply about our field."

It was an exhilarating start to the new school year!
