St. Baldrick's 2017

Just before heading off for spring break, more than 50 K-8 students, teachers, and parents at University School shaved their heads to raise $55,000 for childhood cancer.

St. Baldrick’s Foundation makes grants to research institutions to find new cures for childhood cancer. Stylists from Dino Palmieri Salon & Spa donated their time and expertise to do the shaving.

The festivities began with St. Baldrick’s honored child Gianna and her mother sharing their story. Gianna is 6 years old and is in remission from acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Worldwide, 300,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. Despite tremendous progress, cancer remains the number one disease killer of children in the U.S.

Before the shaving started, Assistant Headmaster Bruce Wilhelm knighted University School students for their efforts. Since 2005, St. Baldrick’s has made possible more than $200 million in research grant funding.
