20 Seniors to Pursue College Athletics

Twenty University School seniors, 34.5% of our senior athletes, have committed to play college sports. The national average is 5.8%. They will play eight sports and attend 19 schools – eight at Division I and 12 at Division III.

Five students signed national letters of intent to pursue athletics at colleges that compete at the Division I level: Antonio Dargaj, football at Valparaiso University; Paul Gota, tennis at University of Notre Dame; Drew Krantz, tennis at Bucknell University; Tyler Krantz, tennis at Colgate University; and Justin Walton, football at Tulane University. They join three athletes who signed for Division I schools earlier in the year: Tommy Nook, lacrosse at Boston University; Joey Schmidt, soccer at Indiana University; and Quinn Stephenson, football at Colgate University.

Twelve seniors have committed to pursue athletics at colleges that compete at the Division III level: Scott Bowman, swimming at MIT; David Buchinsky, tennis at Washington University; Ben Davis, lacrosse at DePauw University; David Dolansky, football/track at Case Western Reserve University; Josh Hunter, golf at Harvey Mudd College; Charlie Krus, soccer at College of Wooster; Connor Kucharski, hockey at Williams College; Graham Lane, swimming at University of Chicago; Charlie Olson, soccer at Trinity College; Brandon Scadlock, football at Union College; Will Shearon, soccer at University of New England; and Stephen Wafalosky, lacrosse at Skidmore College.

At the Division I National Signing Day this week, the coaches spoke about their student athletes.

Antonio Dargaj will play football at Valparaiso University. Head football Coach Ben Malbasa described Antonio’s growth during two years as a starting wide receiver as a product of great focus and commitment, saying, “The results were evident in his multiple 100-yard receiving performances at the end of his senior season that included crucial catches that helped our program earn its first playoff win since 2004.”

Paul Gota will play tennis at the University of Notre Dame. Head tennis Coach Chase Thomas described Paul as an incredibly hard worker who is determined to reach bigger and better things in his game. “He leaves no stone unturned in his quest for constant improvement and I think his focus and drive have been his two biggest attributes.”

Drew Krantz will play tennis at Bucknell University. “You wouldn't know it just by talking to Drew, but he is about as competitive as they come,” said Coach Thomas. “His balance, however, of being able to keep his cool under pressure and still be able to perform at a high level has made him incredibly valuable to our program.”

Tyler Krantz will play tennis at Colgate University. Coach Thomas described Tyler as a tireless worker who puts in the time to prepare, saying, “Tyler leads by example, rarely complains and always comes every day ready to work. These skill sets have helped put him down his path to success both on and off the court.”

Justin Walton will play football at Tulane University. “Justin has been an anchor of our offensive line and a dedicated leader of our team,” Coach Malbasa said. “His efforts were essential to our team’s success.”

Congratulations to our student athletes!
