Freshmen Finalists in Debate Contest

Rohan Krishnamurthi '21 won the Steeber Debate Contest, debating the pro side of the resolution: "State and local governments in the U.S. should remove from their public spaces all monuments to individuals who fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War."

There were nine contestants this year, all freshmen. After a week of fierce competition during lunch every day, the field was narrowed down to two finalists: Chris Moore '21 and Rohan. The final round was before a panel of 13 judges, veterans of the Speech and Debate Team. Rohan won the coin toss and chose to defend the pro side of the resolution. Rohan went on to win the round on an 11-2 decision. Chris Moore finished in second place, and Spencer Kawalek '21 won third place. Congratulations to all the participants!

The contest, now in its eighth year, is named to honor former faculty member and legendary Public Forum debate coach Rosemarie Steeber.
