US senior Ethan Whetstone was was named 2018 Hockey Player of the Year by The News-Herald. He was given the honor because, "Whetstone entrenched his spot in the long line of great forwards to come through US in recent memory, growing from a strong winger as a junior to a tone-setting, scrappy center as a senior captain. Whetstone scored 20 goals and assisted on 37 others for the 24-8-3 Preppers, who advanced to their 14th frozen four. He was an all-Great Lakes Hockey League honoree, second-team All-Ohioan and one of the most respected forwards in the Buckeye State," according to The News-Herald.

The News-Herald First Team: junior George Brinn (12-29-41; all-GLHL; 2nd team All-Ohio), senior Kyle Flatow (428 saves, 93.7 save %, 1.62 GAA; HM All-Ohio), and junior Henry Muha (22-29-51; 2nd team All-Ohio; GLHL scoring leader). Third Team: senior Adam Alt (6-18-24). Honor Role: junior Henry Saada.
