Kindergarten through Fifth grade Spanish focuses on multiple aspects of the Spanish speaking world. We learn vocabulary and verbs, moving from simple sentences and question/answer in Kindergarten through paragraphs, story retelling and dialogues in Fifth grade. In all grades we touch many cultural aspects, including the countries and people that speak the language, as well as day to day life and celebrations in these countries.
Fourth graders take Spanish three times per week for 20 minutes per day. The major concepts and activities include
- Building on vocabulary, including many new verbs and a deeper understanding of verb conjugation.
- Places, community workers, classroom objects, transportation, body parts
- Research projects on notable Hispanics to understand how Hispanic culture has had an impact on the world
- Conversations with each other and moving away from conditioned responses.
