Boys entering sixth grade will choose one of three foreign languages: French, Latin, or Spanish. The selection of the language should be seen as a serious commitment. We require boys to continue with this language throughout their middle school career. Most boys continue studying the same language in high school. Boys, of course, are not ‘locked in’ for five years, but the less they change their course of study, the better they can master one language.
If boys choose Spanish:
- Because current students have had prior instruction in Spanish, we require incoming sixth graders to attend four hours of tutoring on the following dates: August 9, 10, 11, and 12 from 10:30-11:30 AM. This time provides a 30-minute break for those boys signed up for the Middle School Prep summer program which begins at 12:00 pm.
- No preparation is needed prior to this tutoring. A packet of information will be given to boys at the first session.
- There is no charge for the tutoring.
If boys choose French or Latin:
- No tutoring required because study is started at the beginner level
