Below is a list of USPA volunteer opportunities. Please check any and all activities that interest you. Submit online.
Jr.K-8 Room/Sponsor Group Representative
If you would like to be a room rep or sponsor group rep, please indicate which grade below.

Arts Committee
This committee works closely with the art teachers to display the boys' work throughout the year. They also help organize artwork and assist in planning the bi-annual week long Art Walk to be held in the Spring 2020 according to the art teacher's needs. Volunteers may be needed to assist with special projects. Volunteers should be available during the school day.
Bingo Night
Volunteers organize and staff this annual event for US Shaker families. Volunteers procure prizes and provide concessions for this popular event. The event will take place in February on a Friday evening.
Blue Blazer Sale
Responsibilities include the collection and sale of "used, but in good condition" blue blazers and pants. Sales include the morning of student orientation in August (Blue Blazers Only) and two days in the Fall and Spring. This committee promotes and staffs this event.
Book Fair
This event usually takes place in the fall each year on a weekend, and volunteers work with Barnes & Noble to organize and staff the book sale for US students and families.
Dads, Special Friends, & Donuts
Volunteers organize and serve this annual breakfast for US dads or special friends and the boys. The event will take place on two consecutive days in April.
Eighth Grade Graduation
This committee assists the Administration with 8th grade graduation seating and reception volunteers. The committee requires a two-year commitment from two 7th grade chairs. The 7th grade chair's commitment begins when their son enters 7th grade. The 8th grade parents mentor the 7th grade parents, who in the following year help with the event.
Faculty/Staff Appreciation
Faculty/Staff Appreciation Volunteers will help to coordinate an appreciation luncheon for the Faculty and Staff of the Shaker Campus to be held during the Spring on a day where Parent/Teacher conferences are being held (boys are not in school). They will work to gather donations that will be gifted to the Faculty/Staff through a raffle or Chinese auction. This event is organized and staffed by the volunteers.
Fall Family Picnic
This committee will organize a “Back to School” kick-off celebration for the US Community at the lower school. Planning will need to take place for this event over the summer months as the event does occur at the beginning of the school year.
Flowers & Decorations
Parent committee volunteers keep the hallways and entryways into US bright and festive. Flowers & Decorations are changed with seasons, for specific school programs and for the holiday season.
Garden Helpers
Helpers will tend to the garden during the summer and other times that are needed.
Global Table
This committee will work with an administrative liaison to coordinate this “pot luck” event to be held in February. It is a wonderful opportunity to bring dishes to share with others of the US community and celebrate US’s diverse heritage and family traditions.
Grandparents and Special Friends Day
Volunteers support the school in planning this May event. They also process invitations and host the function.
Homecoming Helpers
This committee works with the Hunting Valley USPA to plan and supervise games and activities for younger children during US Homecoming, in the early fall. Volunteers staff the activities in one-hour shifts.
Lower School Library Volunteers
Volunteers staff the Alice McKinley Library during specified times to assist the librarian. Check out books for students and re-shelf books.
Middle School Library Volunteers
Volunteers staff the Sherman Library during specified times to assist the librarian. Check out books for students and re-shelf books.
Moms, Special Friends, & Muffins
Volunteers plan, organize, and serve this annual breakfast for US moms or special friends and the boys. The event will take place on two consecutive days in fall.
Philanthropy
This committee will brainstorm ways to give back and connect with the needs of the surrounding community. They will be responsible for coordinating one school wide philanthropic event such as St. Baldrick’s.
Prescott Group
This Jr.K-12 group that is meant to foster relationships between boys and their fathers or special person. This group has organized events ranging from hiking through the Hunting Valley Campus woods to assembling and launching rockets. Join us for an activity.
Spirit Committee
This committee will focus on community and spirit building across all grade levels. They will put on events through out the school year that encourage the boys to participate in school spirit activities and show support for extracurricular events. Past example includes a night of poster making, meet and greet with Senior boys, and attending a varsity basketball game.
Sunshine Committee
This committee of USPA goodwill ambassadors works to recognize joyous and sympathetic occasions within the US community and coordinates support for those in need throughout the year. The USPA President is the Chair of this committee.
Tower Shop
Volunteers help staff the shop, which sells US logo items and clothing as well as some school supplies. Shifts typically occur before school and at the end of the day, with additional coverage for special occasions. The shifts are coordinated through a volunteer coordinator and sign up schedule.
US Snack Carts
Volunteers are needed daily to sell snacks to the boys after school. Help is also needed with procurement, restocking of inventory, and record keeping. The volunteers are needed every school day from 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm. The shifts are coordinated by a volunteer and sign up schedule.
