National Merit Scholarship Winners

In May, the National Merit® Scholarship Program announced that seniors Steven Kim and Nick Wojnar were named National Merit Scholars, each earning a $2500 scholarship.

There are 2,500 National Merit $2500 Scholarships awarded each year. Every National Merit Scholarship Finalist is considered. Winners are named in every state, in numbers based on the state’s percentage of the nation’s graduating high school seniors.

In June, Charlie Whitner '23 was awarded a National Merit® Scholarship to the University of Maryland, and in July, Matthew Young '23 was awarded a National Merit® Scholarship to Purdue University!

About 160 colleges and universities currently underwrite approximately 3,800 National Merit Scholarships in each annual competition.

From approximately 1.5 million students who entered the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program, only about 16,000 students were named Semifinalists. To advance in the competition and be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, a Semifinalist had to become a Finalist by fulfilling several requirements that included submitting a detailed scholarship application and presenting a record of very high academic performance.

Congratulations, Steven, Nick, and Charlie!
