India

Incredible India!
A cradle of human culture -
Discover India while exploring colonialism, religion, equality, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Curricular Goals:
- Colonialism Past and Present: What were the effects of British colonialism? Did India’s kingdoms have a voice? Were the inhabitants of this subcontinent second (or third) class citizens? How are these perceptions evolving in modern India?
- India’s Caste System: What is the history of the caste system? What role does the caste system play as India evolves in the 21st century?
- Religious Tolerance: While India has no official state religion, Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, Sikhism, and Christianity are all practiced in India. At times, religious minorities in India have been persecuted. What percentage of the population practice each religion? How have relations between these groups fared in contemporary India? What role does the government play in promoting harmony between all religions?
- United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: What are the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s)? How does Bollywood actress Dia Mirza advocate for the SDG’s? In particular, we will focus on the SDG’s of No Poverty, Reduced Inequalities, Gender Equality, Clean Water & Sanitation, and Sustainable Cities & Communities as we explore India.
