Griffin Meyer '19 Soccer Player of the Year

"Last fall, US had a senior-laden starting 11. This fall, it had a predominantly young starting 11. Among few constants: The Preppers made it to Division I regional competition each time, and they had Meyer at the controls. For the way the senior midfielder led an inexperienced side to the D-I sweet 16, Meyer is the 2018 News-Herald boys soccer player of the year. Despite frequent attention, including direct marking, he had 15 goals and 10 assists, earning second-team D-I All-Ohio honors. US went 11-7-2, falling to eventual state champion Medina in a regional semifinal. Between service sense, field command, set-piece danger, ballwinning and so much more, there may not have been a more complete area player."
