Stock Market Challenge Winners

More than 160 US students on 68 teams competed in the 2018 Stock Market Challenge against more than 400 high school teams from across our region. The Challenge began in October and ended in mid-December. During that time the market was extremely tough. Seven US teams had a positive return, and three US teams placed in the top 5, including first and second places!

Tyler Moses '20 and Cade Retino '20 placed first in the region with a portfolio increase of 10.12%; Bobby Housel '19 and Clayton Lovell '19 placed second in the region with a 3.45% return; and Nicholas Nordell '21 and Toussaint Miller '21 placed in the top 5 in the region with a 3.13% increase in their portfolio.

The Stock Market Challenge is a web-based contest. Each student team receives $100,000 of virtual dollars in an SMC brokerage account and simulates managing a portfolio by buying and selling stocks at real-time prices. Students compete for prizes and statewide bragging rights. This is one of the most popular business activities at US, with over 200 middle school and high school students participating each year.
