US Names 6 Teachers New Chair Holders

Head of School Patrick Gallagher announced six teachers as new chair holders. University School named chair endowments provide the essential support that allows the school to retain outstanding and dynamic faculty by providing additional support and professional development opportunities to its chair holders. University School has 18 funded endowed chairs.

Upper School Science Department Chair Karen Axelrod was named The Nathaniel D. McLaughlin Chair in Science, awarded to a teacher whose dedication to his or her students and subject is extraordinary and whose compelling teaching creates in boys a thirst for further scientific exploration and education.

Upper School English Department Chair James Garrett was named The Eugene H. Gray Chair in English, awarded to a teacher who spreads the awareness of the English language’s boundless power and grace.

Middle School Math Department Chair Danny Jones was named The Bruce Griswold ‘34 Chair in Mathematics, awarded to a great mathematics teacher and symbolizing the school's commitment to outstanding teachers.

Jr. K- Grade 8 Professional School Counselor Leslie Muha was named The F.J. O'Neill Chair in Guidance and Counseling, awarded to assure that the quality of guidance at University School will continue at the highest level.

Middle School Social Studies Chair Bridgette Nadzam Kasubick is The Conway Chair in Social Studies, which was established to support the teaching of social studies at the Shaker campus.

Grade 2 Lead Teacher Rebecca Simpson was named The W. Hayden Thompson '45 Chair for Exceptional Faculty Leadership, which is awarded a faculty member who demonstrates leadership qualities above and beyond his or her daily duties.
