12 US Students Receive Awards at 2020 State Science Day

Twelve University School students received awards after presenting their work on a virtual platform at the State Science Day Science and Engineering Fair!

Ten students earned a ranking of superior, the highest mark possible, including Vincent Chen ’21, Harbir Dass ‘23, Alex Devine ’22, Sohum Kapadia ’21, Rohan Krishnamurthi ’21, Nathan Mu ’22, John Pape ’21, Sunay Rastogi ’21, Raghav Sahadevan ’22, and Hans Swain ’24. Eleven special awards were awarded including 2 University of Akron Scholarships (Sohum Kapadia & Sunay Rastogi), recognition of superior statistical analysis award (book award, Sohum Kapadia & Raghav Sahadevan), Geological Society Honorable Mention (Abem Fetene '22), the Future Physician Award ($500, Parker Ernst '20), Wasmer, Schroeder & Company Award ($100, Vincent Chen), Columbia Gas Scholarship ($2000, Alex Devine), and the Believe in Ohio Entrepreneurship Award ($200, Vincent Chen & Hans Swain).

The Ohio State Science Day provides an authentic learning experience by providing students with an opportunity to apply skills learned in the classroom to solve real-world problems. This spring, 797 STEM scholars, in grades 5-12, representing 258 schools competed for nearly $500,000 in sponsored scholarships and awards at the State Science Day Science and Engineering Fair.

Congratulations to all Science Day participants at the Local, District, and State Levels. This was certainly a challenging year, but our boys were dedicated and eager to tackle the challenge of converting their work to a virtual format. Well-deserved awards and recognition all around!
