US Receives Outstanding School Award at State Science Day

The US Shaker campus has been awarded the Harold C. Shaw Outstanding School Award as part of the 2021 Ohio State Science Day – the highest possible school and team achievement at State Science Day!

Twenty-six upper school and middle school students qualified to participate in this year's competition, 17 of whom earned a ranking of superior, the highest mark possible. These students include Andrew Beck '25, Dylan Berr '22, Carl Cort '22, Harbir Dass '23, Alex Devine '22, Jonathan Jang '21, Sohum Kapadia '21, Vishwum Kapadia '25, Alex Kmetko '22, Daniel Lust '25, Kavneer Majhail '25, Sahand Maleki '24, Nathan Mu '22, Sunay Rastogi '21, Raghav Sahadevan '22, Jae Smith '22, and Aaron Velez '24.

Seventeen students were also recognized with individual honors, including Gavin McIlvaine '22, who won the second place Governor's Thomas Edison Award for Advanced or Alternative Energy.

The Ohio State Science Day provides an authentic learning experience by providing students with an opportunity to apply skills learned in the classroom to solve real-world problems. This spring, 622 STEM scholars in grades 5-12, representing 176 schools, were invited to compete at the state level for nearly $400,000 in sponsored scholarships and awards.
