Congratulations to 6th-grader Winston Toplitz, winner of the Middle School Spelling Bee! The bee lasted eight exciting rounds, with ten boys spelling words with increasing difficulty as the rounds progressed. Winston advanced to the Championship Round, where he spelled “d’orsay" correctly to become the champion.
Winston will represent US in the next phase of the competition, a Regional Qualifier online test in February.
Thirteen fourth- and fifth-grade boys also competed in eight rounds of spelling before Ruhan Chhabra '29 correctly spelled “fortuitous” to claim the title. Closely following him was Luke Chao '29 in second place and Simon Prosak '30 in third.
