Shaker Campus Mathletes Impress

Greater Cleveland Council of Teachers of Mathematics (GCCTM) competition
In February, Grade 4 and 5 boys headed to Hawken School to compete in the annual GCCTM math competition. The tournament recognizes interest and perseverance in math, encouraging students to challenge their problem-solving skills in a fun and competitive team format. 
 
The boys competed in four rounds of challenging problems, including a "nimble number line" mental math, a construction activity, and two additional rounds of timed problem-solving. Competing against 31 different teams from the surrounding area, US secured three Trophies, three Champion Awards, and one Rising Star Award. Middle School Boys Compete at MATHCOUNTS
Fifteen students represented University School at the Akron Chapter Level MATHCOUNTS contest in February: Anush Andi '31, Krishan Bansal '30, Liam Camp '30, Joshua Daniels '30, Neo Dave '32, Jospeh Guyuron '32, Peter Hayek '30, Oliver Johansson '32, Sid Khanna '30, Alex Leombruno '32, Nathan Li '32, Rishaan Mehta '32, Taahir Shaikh '30, Owen Stephans '30, and Charles Warga '30. 

These boys joined students from 10 other schools to compete in multiple rounds of problem-solving. In the Individual Rounds, Taahir Shaikh and Nathan Li received first and second place with Liam Camp, Krishan Bansal, Charles Warga, and Sid Khanna, also scoring in the top 25%.

Individually, Krishan Bansal, Liam Camp, Taahir Shaikh, and Nathan Li qualified in the top 12 to compete in the Countdown Round, with Liam securing third place, Taahir second place, and Nathan in first place. In the team competition, the group of four competed together representing US, and earned first place to secure a spot in the state competition.


MATHCOUNTS State Competition 
Taahir Shaikh, Krishan Bansal, Charles Warga, and Nathan Li represented University School at the state level competition of MATHCOUNTS in Columbus in March. Taahir Shaikh, ranked 13 out 184 competitors and made it to a very tough Countdown Round.
