US Athletes Sign Letters of Intent

McGinley will play lacrosse at Syracuse University. Goldberg will play tennis at Stanford University. Both universities compete in NCAA athletics at the Division I level.

In three seasons, McGinley scored 108 goals and tallied 43 assists. He was first team All-Region and second team All-State as a sophomore and junior in 2011 and 2012, and he was selected first team All-Region again in 2012. Last year, he was named All American (the first junior from the US program ever to receive that honor). In doing so, he won the Adam Hamilton Memorial Award (also a first at US) for earning the most All American votes of any player in the Northeast Ohio chapter of US Lacrosse. As a junior, McGinley was ranked 48th in the country by Inside Lacrosse, and 34th in the country by ESPN Rise.

Goldberg has won many national singles and doubles championships including the National Hardcourt Doubles championship. He is currently designated a Blue Chip player by Tennis Recruiting in his high school graduation year. He has been ranked as high as number three in the nation in singles and number one in doubles by the USTA. This year, he won the Boys’ 18’s National Open Doubles Championship, was a semifinalist in the Boys’ 16’s 2012 Easter Bowl, and named the Boys’ 18’s Midwest Qualifier singles champion. Goldberg had back-to-back wins of the National Doubles championships, clenching the USTA Clay and Hardcourt Doubles titles in the Boys’ 16 division.

Commenting at today's ceremony, Joe Shapiro, US's Director of Athletics, said, "Today is a special day as we honor these young men who have chosen institutions of the highest level academically and athletically. Hayes and Yale have set the standard for future University School student-athletes and are fine examples of what is possible through a commitment to maximize their potential."
