The works of nine University School students have been selected to appear in the 2013 Ohio Governor's Youth Art Exhibition, April 14 through May 16, at The Riffe Center's Capitol Theatre in Columbus, Ohio.
The following students' works will be exhibited: Michael Daddario - turned wood vessel; Will Johnson - turned lidded box; Hayes McGinley - turned wood vessel; Max Monahan - photography; Andrew Obernesser - turned wood vessel; Alexander Sivit - photography; Michael Swain - printmaking; Jake Turben - turned wood vessel; and John Vollmer - printmaking.
"US has always been well represented at this exhibit, but this is the first time we've had such a large number of pieces accepted," said Reinhold Friebertshauser, chairman of the arts department. This is quite an achievement considering that only 300 works are chosen from some 12,000 entries."
The Ohio Governor's Youth Art Exhibition, now in its 43rd year, is dedicated to the educational and artistic advancement of talented young people in the state of Ohio. The exhibition is open to students at all of Ohio's 1,112 high schools, both public and private. Its purpose is to provide young artists with opportunities to advance their talent through scholarships or simply experience the process of entering their work in a competition.
