The National Merit Scholarship Program has announced that three University School seniors are winners in the 2014 Competition for National Merit Scholarships, and one University School senior is the winner of a National Achievement Scholarship.
All of the winners started their education at University School in the middle school.
The National Merit Scholarship winners are: Walker Chieffe, of Chagrin Falls; Andrew (Drew) Megerian, of Shaker Heights, and Joshua Wang, of Beachwood. The National Achievement Scholarship winner is Christopher Thompson, of Cleveland Heights.
Walker Chieffe has been awarded a scholarship underwritten by Liberty Mutual Scholarship Foundation. He will attend Dartmouth College in the fall. Drew Megerian and Josh Wang's scholarships will be underwritten by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Drew will attend Yale University. Josh will attend Princeton University.
Christopher Thompson's National Achievement Scholarship is underwritten by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Chris will be attending the University of Pennsylvania.
These students join approximately 1000 distinguished high school seniors from around the country who have won awards financed by corporations, foundations, and other business organizations. Most of the awards range from $500 to $10,000 per year.
As reported earlier, this year, University School had 11 semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Competition, one of the highest numbers, per capita, of all high schools in the Cleveland area.
"We are very pleased that these talented young men have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation," added Jenny Rifken Fisher, Director of College Counseling. "All of these young men are bright and hard working, and we look forward to seeing all that they will accomplish in college and beyond."
