Jayden Cunningham '18 was one of five talented high school quarterbacks who performed at Nike’s The Opening Regional at the Browns training facility this past weekend. In cleveland.com, Tim Bielik wrote about each of the area quarterbacks who performed at the camp, and described Jayden:
As a junior, Cunningham showed that he is one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks in the area. He has the mobility as well as the arm strength to make plays.
On Sunday, Cunningham displayed his strong arm and showed he had no problem making any kind of throw that was required of him.
“I think it really helps that I can run and pass,” Cunningham said. “Because (US coach Ben Malbasa) likes to spread the ball out, I think that opens up the field more for not only me, but the receivers and the running back. And it spreads the defense out so we can find areas where they’re weak and then attack.”
Cunningham’s ability led the Preppers to the playoffs for the first time since 2011 and reached the Division III, Region 10 semifinals.
He has gotten some interest in schools from the MAC and the Ivy League following his junior season. But he added that he is in no rush and will be patient with his recruiting process.
