Headmaster Rick Bryan was pleased to officially open STEAMworks, a gift from Jerome A. Weinberger '46 and family, on October 20, 2017. Jerry Weinberger's children, Gail Stein and Neil Weinberger '79, along with their children, were on hand to welcome more than 60 guests to the new innovation lab, a state-of-the-art space unlike anything found at any other independent school in the country.
Guests at the opening ceremony included friends of Jerry's from his school days (alumni from the classes of '45, '46, and '47), Shaker campus faculty and staff, science and technology faculty from the upper school, and members of the Board of Trustees.
The boys at the Shaker campus have eagerly been anticipating the opening of STEAMworks, which provides boys with the tools, technology, and space to create anything they can dream up. Some of the notable equipment in the room includes a laser cutter and engraver, filament and resin-based 3D printers, "littleBits"--electronic building blocks for prototyping hardware, digital video and photography equipment, computers for CAD, and even sewing machines!
