8th Grade Speaking Contest

Congratulations to Eighth Grade Speaking Contest winner James Cullers! James won first place for his speech, “Injustice in the Justice System.” Cyril Andrews received second place for “The Nexus Between Terrorism and Education,“ and Arthur Li won third place for “Nuclear Energy: Driving a New, Clear Future.” Ajay Krishnaney, Dev Peyrat, and Nathan Mu were the other finalists who delivered inspiring and thought-provoking speeches.

This year the boys were judged on the speech's connection to one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for 2030; its persuasive call to action that age-group peers could reasonably carry out; as well as performance and delivery.

Thank you to our judges: Chris Stakich '97, CEO and chairman of the board of Rustic Pathways; Bella Patel, director of Global Programming and associate director of the Primary at Laurel School; and George Nageeb '18, Eighth Grade Speaking Contest winner in 2014.

Congratulations to the finalists and teachers Kelly Sherwin and Lorece Stanley.
