Libraries
University School has three outstanding libraries that are specifically tailored to students at our two campuses.
The Wean Research Library
The Wean Research Library serves students in grades 9–12 at the Hunting Valley campus, supporting learning, teaching, and exploration across the curriculum. Our collection includes more than 12,000 print volumes, 80,000 ebooks, and subscriptions to six daily newspapers and six magazines. Students and faculty also have access to a robust suite of academic databases – the same resources they will encounter in undergraduate research – ensuring a smooth transition to college-level scholarship. Beyond resources, the library is a hub for developing critical research and information literacy skills, exploring literature, and cultivating a lifelong love of reading. We also provide online practice tests for the SAT, ACT, PSAT, and AP exams, equipping students for academic success beyond University School.
The McKinley Library
The McKinley Library at the Shaker campus (grades Jr.K-4), boasts a collection of 12,000 volumes. The librarian provides curricular support for the lower school faculty as well as teaching classes in literature appreciation, library and research skills, and information literacy. Lessons are generally integrated with classroom instruction and themes, or reflect special events during the year. The library resources may be accessed at any time, in person or online, and students are encouraged to use the library for individual study and research.
