Arts Department

The Arts Department offers a wide variety of opportunities in the performing arts, visual arts, and design technology.  A student will find his voice, learn to execute and communicate his vision, perhaps even spring-boarding into a career in the arts or design. There are many opportunities to perform, exhibit, and compete with the talents a student hones right here at University School. He will find that his experiences with our arts curriculum, whatever his path, will make him into a better informed and life-long lover of the arts who appreciates the value of a culture-enriched society.

The department faculty consists of a group of practicing artists with more than 100 years of collective teaching experience. Our teachers make a habit of sharing their insights and expertise with students both in the studio and by being available for one-on-one tutorials.

As a graduation requirement, the School expects students to complete at least four semesters of study in the arts.  Many elect to go well beyond that requirement, however, by pursuing passionately a discipline like orchestra, choir or theater throughout their US years. Some, by contrast, take many different classes to experience a wider scope of media like painting and drawing, sculpture, and photography. Others still choose more advanced courses that continue to inspire and expand their aesthetic, performance, and technical sensibilities, like drama workshop, jazz band, or digital design and fabrication.
