Dylan Siegler

Computers and Programming through the Years
On Thursday, March 15, Dylan Siegler presented his Junior Research Fellows project to the middle school. It was entitled Computers and Programming through the Years. Dylan Fellows idea was ambitious from the start: to learn a programming language, then use it to create a code for his own, original program.
Well, he accomplished that and lots more. Dylan really put his heart into this project. Working closely with his mentors, he read, he researched, and even took several programming courses. Dylan now is an expert on and the math and science behind programming. Dylan benefited greatly from his mentors on this project: Mr. Charlie Meyers, ’86 and Mrs. Sandy Cronin. Mr. Meyers and Mrs. Cronin are from WRIS, a web development company in Solon. Both of them were very generous with their time and expertise, and we can’t thank them enough. U

nfortunately, Mr. Meyers was unable to attend, but Mr. Jim Abbott, ’87 came in his place. Mr. Abbott is Director of Sales at WRIS. Dylan’s presentation demanded the audience’s concentration because the information he shared was so detailed and rich. He reviewed the history of computers and different programming languages. But mainly he discussed the intricate coding processes of “Dylan’s Drawing Program,” an original program that he created from scratch. This project is just a first step for Dylan. One of his life goals is to develop an entire operating system.

We all learned a lot from Dylan’s presentation, and we are proud to call him a Center for Excellence Junior Research Fellow!
