US Earns Governor's Thomas Edison Award

 
The Ohio Academy of Science (OAS) selected University School's Middle School and Upper School as one of 76 Ohio schools to receive The Governor's Thomas Edison Award for Excellence in STEM Education and Student Research for their accomplishments during the 2024-2025 school year. Middle School and Upper School faculty were recognized for extending experiential STEM opportunities beyond the traditional classroom.
 
Thank you to these STEM teachers and mentors of the 2024-2025 school year named in the award who challenge and support our student scientists every day: Karen Axelrod, Erik Bunce, Jason Dyke, Bob Farrell, Bethany Guzoski, Terry Harmon, Robin Ketcham, Sara Laux, Adam Love, Andrew Martin, Dru McKeown, Bo Montanye, Paul Moody, Bob Newill, Jeff Pierce, Mostafa Rousta, Jim Seibyl, Chris Ann Slye, Mike Smith, Peter Sweeney, and Amy Wujnovich. 

First established in 1985, the Governor’s Thomas Edison Awards recognizes Ohio schools and teachers who stimulate scientific student research and technological design and extend experiential opportunities beyond traditional classroom activities. 

“We are proud to honor these schools and teachers for preparing students for the future”, said Michael E. Woytek, the Academy’s Executive Director. “Science is a critical driver of economic growth by fostering innovation, creating new industries, and generating high-skilled jobs.”
