Nine Upper School students competed in the Ohio K-12 Chinese Speech & Essay Contest, hosted by the Confucius Institute at Cleveland State University. The competition gives students the chance to show off their mastery of the Chinese language by entering an essay and a presentation, giving a speech in-person, and responding to a Q&A session with the judges.
This was University School's first time participating in this competition. Our students put in a lot of hard work, and they did a fantastic job! In fact, every US student who participated in the competition received an award. Herbert Crowther excelled, placing second. Third-place finishers were Ryan Devine, Daniel Ryan, Rafiq Sitabkhan, Riaz Sitabkhan, and Gavin Tallal. Honorable Mentions went to Jack Miranda, Wyatt Sweeney, and Troy Young.
Congratulations to all the participants and their teacher Su-JaneChen!
