US Tennis Wins State Championship

The varsity tennis team won the Division I Ohio Tennis Coaches' Association State Team Championship at Reynoldsburg High School by defeating New Albany High School 3-0. With the victory, the team secured the 22nd State Championship in the history of University School Athletics.

After Drew Krantz '17 won his singles match and the doubles team of Tyler Krantz '17 and Danny Godes '17 won their match, the pairing of Chas Norman '20 and Charlie Joranko '20 secured the team’s state championship. Paul Gota '17 and David Buchinsky '17 were still competing in their singles matches at the time the championship was clinched.

The team secured the OTCA Team Championship one day after Paul Gota scored a 7-5, 7-5 victory in the Division I singles state final at the 2017 OHSAA boys tennis state tournament. Gota’s victory was the third singles state championship in US history and the first since 1997.
